In this article, we discuss the role and the journey of Malcolm Rabson – the co-founder and managing director of Dariel Software. The company aims to solve the biggest problems in the business by using the latest and advanced technology solutions.
About Malcolm Rabson
Malcolm Rabson is the Co-Founder and Managing Director of Dariel Solution which is the South African Software Company. It is focused on creating world-class software architecture and solutions for business by utilizing the latest and advanced technology.
Malcolm Rabson holds a Master’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand. Since 1980 he has been actively involved in the IT industry and participated in software development projects, project management, sales, and leadership. Rabson started his career as a software developer on the Rooivalk helicopter project. Before starting a company, he spent around 6 years at the Altech group where he was involved in military software development. Later, he was a business development manager at SPL for 3 years and spent two years listing a software development company within the Accord group.
Journey of Highs and Lows
Malcolm Rabson during his early life, had no idea about technology and its power. He usually built small electronic kits at school for fun which never worked. He never even thought that technology or the IT industry would be the best career for him. Rabson observed that corporate IT service providers did not have an appreciation for the science of software development and the ability to sustain a long-term service delivery business, accounting for this he decided to start a company. Malcolm Rabson along with his co-founders Wayne Yan, and Gregory Vercellotti launched Dariel Software in the year 2001.
The company was self-funded by three founders and their intention was not to incur debt at the start of the business. Initially, they did not draw any salaries for themselves so that they could reinvest the money into the business and make it big. To manage both projects and sales, during the day they worked on projects, and evening they spent on business development works like sales, admin, and strategy in the evenings. The challenge faced during this time was multi-tasking effectively, but later as the company grew it was easy to manage all the operations of the organization.
Malcolm Rabson sees cloud, AI, and Machine Learning as a current hot technology that has the potential to bring transformation in business and other sectors. Rabson in one of the interviews said that – While an emphasis on digital content creation and operating systems has waned, software as a service (SaaS) has taken on a more dominant role, and it is easy to see why. Most technology has software best practices at its heart. If we can harness the benefits of software development we can not only drive differentiation in the market and capitalize on business opportunities but also create a sustainable African economy.
