EMEA Entrepreneur. Sergey Petrov is the Founder and CEO, of Pollenity (formerly known as BeeSmart Technologies). Established in Sofia, Bulgaria, Pollenity integrates advanced technological tools and biology-based algorithms with traditional beekeeping methods to save the rising decline in bee populations. In the past few years, there has been a significant decline in the population of bees, where the mortality rate was much greater than the entire bee population in the world. Bees are a vital species to the Earth’s biodiversity. They are the pollinators that directly support a diverse species of plants through fertilization thus enhancing the quality of food crops and other vegetation. Honey Bee pollinators make up about 80% of pollination in the world. Through Bees our ecosystem is balanced, food quality is at optimum levels, and sustainability efforts are improved. Therefore, by driving sustainable efforts in saving bees Sergey Petrov founded and established Pollenity in 2015 in Bulgaria, Europe. In 2019, the company’s business model was revamped from being a technology-focused firm to a mixed model, where Beebot – an in-hive device sensor is used alongside traditional beekeeping methods.
Sergey Petrov – A Leading Pioneer in Saving the Bee Population in Europe:
Sergey Petrov, Pollenity’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer initially launched the organization in 2015 as BeeSmart Technologies. Then later in 2019 Sergey renamed the organization as Pollenity. The founder has an Aeronautical Engineering Degree from the Technical University of Sofia and an MBA in Business Administration from New Bulgarian University. Sergey has also received a Graduate Studies Program in Exponential Technology and Entrepreneurship from Singularity University, and after which he went on to work in various organizations throughout his career.
A passionate nature lover and enthusiast, Sergey’s vision is to create the “Nature of Bees”. Closely collaborating with system architects, industry professionals, professional beekeepers, and engineers, the founder developed Pollenity’s main product called Beebot – a non-intrusive in-hive device sensor. This advanced technology sensor collects data and insights such as the temperature of the beehive, the humidity, and bee sounds. The company also uses external sensors that collect data and insights from sudden weather changes that can potentially impact bee hives. A tireless contributor towards innovation and research, Sergey Petrov in the beekeeping industry, instills and follows a strong vision in driving sustainable agriculture through an approach that is knowledge-oriented.
Pollenity – Bees as Sensors of the Ecosystem:
Working to integrate state-of-the-art technology with in-depth ecological insights, Pollenity is aimed at creating solutions that educate, engage, and foster a notable change in the environment.
The internal in-hive sensors provide real-time data and insights which are then wirelessly transmitted to a platform alerting and monitoring the beekeepers regarding any sudden disruptions or changes. With the collected data stored in cloud storage, Big Data Analysis and Machine Learning are used as biology-based algorithms to thoroughly analyze the collected data, and immediately take the necessary preventative actions in intervening and addressing the identified issues. This fosters sustainable beekeeping practices helping reduce the overall workload of beekeepers with the use of this technology, thereby replacing their routine manual check-ins of beehives. Operating costs are reduced extensively, the colony’s health is maintained at optimum levels, and the early warning and alert systems make data-driven decision-making processes quick and seamless.
Pollentiy at its Core:
Pollenity’s mission is to “harness technology to positively impact ecosystems, promoting a healthier planet for future generations.” Therefore, to harness nature for practicing sustainable businesses, an ESG program and service called “Adopt a Hive” is offered to various businesses that are aimed at enhancing their ESG goals and initiatives.
Where the best traceable honey is provided, Pollenity encourages organizations to choose their desired beekeeper professional out of a network of 50, to help contribute and play a vital role in saving 60,000 bees by adopting just one hive. With cost-effective pricing and authentic honey being collected, Pollenity places ESG practices at its forefront and emphasizes that it is not just a trend but the team’s mission to achieve national economic sustainability. With one beehive saved through the Adopt a Hive Program, 20+kg of genuine traceable honey is produced and supplied, over 60,000 new bees are added and saved, and over 310+ million flowers are pollinated.
With a vision to “lead the global transition towards sustainable business practices that harmoniously integrate with natural resources”, Pollenity involves Environmental Integrity, Social Responsibility, Governance, and Transparency, by offering services through ESG Reporting Support, the Adopt a Hive Program, and Customized Sustainability Solutions.
